Didi van Berge Henegouwen and Mark Siezenga are the sustainability coordinators of the University Sports Centre. They are responsible for the sustainability initiatives organised by the USC. For example, in 2019, they organised the Bio Science Park Plogging & Cleanup event. Next to that, they strive to improve sustainability within the USC itself. In 2021, they started sharing tips on sustainability through social media.

For the USC Healthy & Delicious Breakfast Challenge, we asked our sporters to send us their most favorite breakfast (sorry, chocolate croissants won’t pass the bar in this time). We were looking for healthy recipes based on their ingredients and a fair balance of macro- and micronutrients. Macronutrients are carbohydrates, proteins and fats and micronutrients are vitamines and minerals. Besides healthy, these recipes also had to be delicious.

USC temporary closed from Sunday February 7

A lot of snowfall will be expected in the next few days, starting tonight. This has consequences for the use of our fields / courts. These cannot be used when covered in snow. Also during thawing (transition from frost-thaw they will be extra vulnerable. For this reason, it has been decided to close all sports fields, tennis courts, outdoor fitness and the Club Building from tomorrow (Sunday, February 7). This is indefinite until further notice due the weather forecast.

Extended Lockdown

Extended Lockdown

You will have noticed that the cabinet has decided to extend the current lockdown measures until March 3. Starting from Saturday January 23 there is also a curfew in the Netherlands between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. This means that all USC sports activities will end one hour and 15 minutes before the start of the curfew. Sports at the USC is therefore possible until 7:45 pm at the latest. This gives our employees time to close everything down and be home on time.
