Yin Yang Yoga The Hague

Yin Yoga at the USC

In a demanding society there is often very little space or attention for oneself. This makes us easy targets for stress and exhaustion so that we are distracted from what we truly want, feel or are. That’s why, at the USC, you can participate in a variety of activities to achieve a better balance and coordination between mind and body.

Make sure you are on time. Once the class is started, it is no longer possible to join in.

Week schedule

In the lessons we play with the different qualities of yin and yang. Yang: action, purposeful, and yin: softness, surrender. In this way we create an inner balance.

Everything in life is about the right balance. Day and night, exercise and relaxation, good and bad…. They keep each other in balance. Life is everything. That also applies to this lesson. Yin is the soft, feminine, receptive and more energetic side of yoga. Yang encompasses the firm, masculine, active and muscular side of yoga. While the yang poses and movements are more focused on the muscles and provide a flexible, powerful and vital body, the yin poses are more focused on the deeper connective tissue around joints and organs and you restore the flow of energy in the meridians. Yang gives you a challenge and yin stillness. The yin postures help you to turn your attention inward. You learn to relax deeply, you find the silence within yourself.

Yin yang yoga is a fusion of yin yoga and yang yoga. So it combines the soft, attentive and calm of yin yoga with the fiery and powerful of yang yoga. You start such a yin yang yoga session in a yin way: quiet, slower exercises with a lot of attention for the breathing. This way you slowly build up to the yang part of the lesson. There the exercises require more effort and strength, but thanks to the preparatory yin warm-up, the postures would be less stressful. The class often ends with a few yin exercises and a short yin meditation. As you can see, the yin and yang elements do not contradict each other at all: they support and complement each other!
