Twerk Dance at the USC!
Important notice: Activities at the USC during this Pandemic are under strict conditions. Read the Rules and Conditions carefully.
Twerk is an individually performed dance in which dancers move by shaking their buttocks, or moving their hips by alternately contracting abdominal and lower back muscles. Often in a squat position that trains legs and buttocks.
Dancers being encouraged to "work it". Local bounce practitioners attribute the term to a contraction of "to work" or "twerk".
Twerking is part of a larger set of characteristic moves unique to the New Orleans style of hip-hop known as "Bounce". Twerking is but one choreographic gesture within bounce. Twerking traces its origins to the West African dance called Mapouka, which has existed for centuries.
Miley Cyrus her appearance at the MTV VMA Awards in August 2013 increased the popularity of the dance.
Certain registration rules apply to our group classes and fitness training, which can be found on this page. Read them carefully.
