Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the USC
In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), the goal is to put your opponent in a position where he or she has to give up by tapping out. Control and technology are important. BJJ focuses on taking the fight to the ground and finishing it there. Normally you start standing and wrestling and judo techniques are also involved, unless you pull your partner to the ground ("guard pull"). The game continues on the ground and there are countless positions you can get into. The trick is to control your opponent positionally and ultimately make him tap out. In a match, someone can win on points or by letting the other tap out. Many BJJ tournaments are organized in the Netherlands and the rest of the world.
Classes at USC start with a warm-up. Partners are changed regularly during the lessons.

About the teacher
Hi, my name is Iwan Hansen and I have worked in sports for 10 years as an instructor and personal trainer. During that period I obtained a certificate in the field of nutrition knowledge. In addition, I have been practicing the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art for over 14 years and have been teaching for 9 years lessons in various gyms in different regions and seminars therein and has held the black belt since 2021. I enjoyed fighting in tournaments and I learned a lot and gained experience from that.
Since March 15, 2023, I have been working as a Caretaker AD at Leiden University Humanities where it is very pleasant with colleagues.
A teammate of mine Gideon teaches at the University Sports Center and asked me once wanted to give a trial lesson and so I did. Hugo, who also teaches there, was there at the time I was teaching and he became so enthusiastic and came up with the idea of putting me forward to start teaching.
We start on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 6:10 PM and I will share my skills with you during the lessons.
I'll see you on the tatami.
