Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the USC
Lessons: from October 13 every Friday from 6:10 PM to 7:40 PM and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 10:55 AM
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ for short) is the art of putting your opponent in a position where he or she has to give up. Control and technique are important.
BJJ focuses on taking the fight to the ground and finishing it there. In BJJ you normally always start standing and wrestling and judo techniques are also involved, unless you pull your partner to the ground ("guard pull"). The game continues on the ground and there are countless positions you can get into. The art in BJJ of controlling your opponent positionally and ultimately making him give up. In a match, someone can win on points or by letting the other tap out. Many BJJ tournaments are organized in the Netherlands and the rest of the world.
This martial art was developed by the Gracie family from 1917 onwards from judo and traditional jiu jitsu. In 1993, BJJ first became known around the world thanks to Royce Gracie and the first UFC. This tournament was designed to find out which martial art was the most effective. 8 participants from various disciplines (boxing, kickboxing, karate, sumo wrestling, wrestling, etc.) were invited to fight in a cage without rules for the first time. The lightest and weakest competitor Royce defeated his much heavier and stronger opponent round by round by using BJJ. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was on the map and Mixed Martial Arts was born.https://combatbrothers.nl/portfolio-item/mixed-martial-arts-mma/

About the teacher
Hi, my name is Iwan Hansen and I have worked in sports for 10 years as an instructor and personal trainer. During that period I obtained a certificate in the field of nutrition knowledge. In addition, I have been practicing the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art for over 14 years and have been teaching for 9 years lessons in various gyms in different regions and seminars therein and has held the black belt since 2021. I enjoyed fighting in tournaments and I learned a lot and gained experience from that.
Since March 15, 2023, I have been working as a Caretaker AD at Leiden University Humanities where it is very pleasant with colleagues.
A teammate of mine Gideon teaches at the University Sports Center and asked me once wanted to give a trial lesson and so I did. Hugo, who also teaches there, was there at the time I was teaching and he became so enthusiastic and came up with the idea of putting me forward to start teaching.
We start on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 6:10 PM and I will share my skills with you during the lessons.
I'll see you on the tatami.
Iwan Hansen
