Noor on Sports at the USC: 'You Always Feel Welcome'

Meet Noor, a 22-year-old Master's student in Journalism and New Media at Leiden University. Besides her studies, she's often at the University Sports Centre, where she focuses on strength training, running, and regularly swims laps in the pool. "Sporting is a great outlet for me and helps clear my mind after a busy week."
From Break Activity to Regular Routine
Noor began exercising at the USC while studying International Studies in The Hague. "I always had a lot of free time between my tutorials on Wednesdays, so I started going to USC The Buzz as a way to pass the time. It was perfect because the sports facility is just across from the university. Now, working out has become a regular part of my week." In addition to her workouts at the USC, Noor ran the half marathon in The Hague last year. "I ran the half marathon last year, and it was a great experience. The route was beautiful, and training with the Wijnhaven Runners was a lot of fun. The feeling I had when I crossed the finish line was very special."
Exercising at the USC: Accessible and Motivating
For students who are still uncertain about exercising (more), Noor has clear advice: "Just do it! The USC offers an affordable way to discover many different sports. If you're not sure where to start, try a few group classes and see what suits you. Working out with a fellow student or housemate makes it even more fun!"
"You Always Feel Welcome"
What does Noor appreciate most about the USC? The atmosphere. "It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete, you always feel welcome. The instructors and staff are approachable and eager to help. The group classes are fun yet challenging, and you quickly meet new people."
More than Just Getting Physically Fit
For Noor, sports is more than just physical progress. "Running helps me reduce stress and put everything from the week into perspective. My fitness and strength have improved, but I also feel mentally better after a workout." Her message to other students? "Don’t be afraid to try something new. Before you know it, you’ll have found a sport you enjoy and are getting better at."
