Starting September 1^st , 2023, the USC will be linking its accounts with the university administration. From then on, students, PhD candidates, or employees registered at Leiden University can only access my.uscleiden.com and the USC app using their SURFconext account. Here's what you need to know:

To make it easy for you to log in with your university account, just like for other Leiden University services, we need your help. Please check and update your email address in your online profile to your university umail address.

When changing your email address, note that you will need to log in with your new umail address and USC password in the app and on mijn.uscleiden.nl. Starting from September 1^st , you will log in via SURFconext.

What happens if you don't update your email address?

On August 31^st , 2023, all sporters currently registered as students, PhD candidates, or employees at Leiden University without a registered umail address will be automatically classified as external users. This means you will be charged the higher subscription rate. However, if you are a student, PhD candidate, or employee and wish to be reclassified correctly, you can have your account adjusted. Simply update your email address in your account, log in via SURFconext, and you will be placed in the correct category again.

Why are you making this change?

The USC is part of the university, and it's important for students and employees to have a seamless login experience across various platforms. Additionally, maintaining accurate member categories is crucial.

I am an employee or PhD candidate with an employee email. Which email address should I use?

Please enter your ULCN email address instead of your work email address. To find your umail address (@umail.leidenuniv.nl), access Account Services through the employee page of the university, proceed to 'My Profile,' and navigate to the 'Account' tab.

I am an employee or PhD candidate with an employee email. Can I use my VUW address?

No, it is important that you provide your umail address (username@umail.leidenuniv.nl) as your designated email address.

I am a student and have forwarded my umail to my private email address, which is already registered with you. Is this acceptable?

No, we explicitly require your umail address. Kindly provide us with your umail email address.

If I change my email to my umail address, do I need to use the corresponding password to log in?

No, if you change your email to your umail address, you should continue logging in with your old USC password until August 31^st . Starting from September 1^st , you'll be able to log in via SURFconext using your university password.

Do I need to enter my student number or employee number?

No, this is not necessary. You cannot change this information in your profile, and it's not used for the ULCN link.

What happens to my subscription when I graduate?

Your current subscription remains valid, and no additional payments are required. Once you graduate and log in to the site or app again, your account will be converted to an alumni account. If you wish to renew your subscription, you can do so at the alumni rate. You'll continue to log in with your ULCN account.

What happens to my subscription if I stop studying?

Your current subscription remains valid, and no further payment is required. Once you officially unsubscribe, your account will be blocked when you log into the site or app again. Although your subscription will still be active, you won't be able to make bookings. Please contact us via email, and we'll convert your ulcn email to your private email so you can continue using the site and app. If you choose to renew your subscription after it expires, it will be at the external rate.

I am retiring soon but want to continue working out with you. Is that possible?

Your current subscription will remain valid until the end date. Once you officially retire, your account will be blocked upon logging in to the site or app again. Although your subscription will still be active, you won't be able to make bookings. Please contact us via email, and we'll convert your ulcn email to your private email so you can continue using the site and app. If you choose to renew your subscription after it expires, it will be at the external rate.

I haven't been a student for a while. What happens to my account?

If you have graduated from Leiden University, logging into the site or app after September 1^st , 2023, will automatically convert you to the alumni category. Your current subscription will remain active, and upon expiration, you can extend it at the alumni rate if interested.

If you have stopped studying without graduating, you will be converted to an external member on September 1^st . Your current subscription will remain active, and upon expiration, you can extend it at the external rate if interested.

I am a retired employee of the university and I still pay the employee rate, what now?

Starting from September 1^st , you will be transitioned to the status of an external member. Your current subscription will remain active, and upon its expiration, you have the option to renew it at the external rate, should you be interested.

As a PhD candidate nearing the completion of your studies, what will happen after obtaining your PhD?

If you have finished you PhD at the end of your subscription and you want to continue working out with us, you can. The rate then depends on whether you are also an alumnus at Leiden University, if so, you pay the alumni rate and you can continue to log in with your ULCN account. Your current subscription will remain valid until the end date.

However, if you are not an alumnus of Leiden University, your account will be blocked upon your next login to the site or app. Although your subscription will still be active, you will be unable to make bookings. In such a case, kindly contact us via email, and we will assist you in converting your ulcn email to your private email, and then you can continue to use the site and app.. Upon the expiration of your subscription, you will have the choice to renew it at the external rate.

I'm an alumnus of Leiden University but I don't have my account information, have lost it or never received it. What can I do?

• Do you remember your student number, but not your password? Please contact the ISSC Helpdesk (helpdesk@issc.leidenuniv.nl) to have a password reset performed.
• If you have forgotten your student number, you can contact the Student Affairs Front Office (https://www.student.universiteitleiden.nl/je-opleiding/contact-en-advies/frontoffice-studentenzaken/universiteit-leiden/). The contact form can be found here: https://www.student.universiteitleiden.nl/vr/faq/form/frontoffice-studentenzaken

The employees of the Student Affairs Front Office can look up your student number and then perform a password reset.

• If you are not registered in uSis, you can submit a request to be added as an alumni in uSis via the Student Affairs Front Office. You will then be asked for some specific data (names such as on the passport, study followed, date/year of graduation, etc.) and this will be verified internally at the Beadle's office. If everything is correct, the account will be added to uSis and you will receive the correct account details to log in.

Does this policy also apply to PhD students or employees at the LUMC?

No, LUMC employees/PhD students will continue to log in in the current way. If you work or pursue your PhD at the LUMC, please email us to confirm your affiliation, and we will ensure that you are not transferred to the incorrect category on September 1, 2023.

I am a PhD candidate at another university. Does this policy apply to me as well?

PhD candidates at other universities will continue to log in in the same way as now. If, in addition to being a PhD candidate at another university, you are also an alumnus of Leiden University, then this does apply to you. Then also change your email address to your umail address. As a PhD candidate from another university you pay the external rate and as an alumnus of Leiden University you pay a lower rate, so it is cheaper for you to do this.

I am a student at Hogeschool Leiden or another HBO institution. Does this policy also apply to me?

No, students from Hogeschool Leiden (HSL) or other HBO institutions will continue to log in using the current method. Please inform us of your HSL or HBO student status, and we will ensure that you are not mistakenly assigned to the wrong category on September 1, 2023. Kindly provide a photo of your valid student card along with your request.
